Survey shows nearly half favour expansion of closest airport
28 Jul 2014

Some 47 per cent of people who live close to the airports Heathrow, Luton, Gatwick, Stansted or London City favour expansion for the airport they're closest to, new government survey data shows.

According to 'Public experiences of and attitudes towards air travel' data, only 20 per cent were against expansion. In 2010, those figures were 41 per cent and 25 per cent respectively.

"This independent study confirms that support for airport expansion is growing," John Holland-Kaye, the CEO of Heathrow Airport, has said.

Separate Populus data from earlier in 2014 demonstrated that 48 per cent of a sample of Heathrow residents back the Airport getting a third runway.

"Since 2010 we have listened to local residents and developed a new approach to a third runway at Heathrow that delivers the benefits of growth but with less impact for local people," Mr Holland-Kaye has said.ADNFCR-408-ID-801738116-ADNFCR
