Buda Castle hosts a whole host of delightful autumn events

Buda Castle boasts impressive autumnal events
30 Jul 2014

Buda Castle is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Budapest - and it’s easy to see why.

This historical castle and palace was originally built in 1265, and is situated in the city’s Castle District. Visitors to this part of Budapest will notice the stunning medieval and baroque architecture, as well as its myriad of 19th century buildings.

History buffs will get a thrill from visiting this castle, which was initially constructed by King Bela IV of Hungary. However, the oldest part of the building still standing today was constructed in the 14th century by Steven, Duke of Slavonia - the foundations of the castle keep.

These days the castle hosts a wide range of events and festivals for tourists and locals to enjoy.

One that is certainly not to be missed is the Hungarian Palinka and Sausage Festival - one of the most delicious events in the city - which occurs during autumn.

During this festival, attendees drink Palinka shots, which are strong distilled fruit brandy, and snack on tasty Hungarian sausages. Lively entertainment is also put on, with a variety of concerts and shows taking the stage.

This year, the event will be running from October 2nd-5th.

Those in Budapest during the autumn season may also be excited to witness the Harvest Procession, which is a traditional part of the Budapest Wine Festival at the castle.

The procession shows off the superb Hungarian folk dresses, traditional womenswear and menswear from regions all over the country. Attendees will also be able to witness Hungarian folk dance shows.

People interested in watching this parade should ensure they are at Buda Castle on September 14th.

The wine festival itself - running from September 10th-14th this year - is one of the longest-awaited events in Budapest during autumn. Guests are invited to sample the country’s best wine and sparkling wine in the scenic surrounds of Castle Buda - which sits on a picturesque hilltop. ADNFCR-408-ID-801738740-ADNFCR
