San Francisco is known for its old-fashioned cable cars and hippie legacy - but what are the sights you must absolute see?

Tickets to tour Alcatraz Island and prison can sell out months in advance, suggesting just how much of a must-see this is! Tours set off from Pier 33 and can be taken during the day with the first ferry departing at 8.45am, while the more adventurous can experience the Alcatraz Night Tour. You will soon learn that the former prisoners had some of the best views of San Francisco skyline!

Golden Gate Bridge

One of the seven wonders of the modern world, the Golden Gate Bridge stands at 1.7 miles long and is probably the most prominent landmark of the Bay. However, rather than just admiring it from a distance, the best way to experience the Bridge is by hiring a bike and cycling across it. Not only will you get fabulous views of San Francisco, but it helps you to get really up close and personal with this iconic landmark.

Ride on a Powell-Hyde cable car

This serves two purposes - it is a rite of passage for anyone who visits San Francisco and is also a handy way to get around in a notoriously hilly city! A historic part of the city, the Powell-Hyde cable cars are such an important part of history to San Francisco, you can even buy Christmas decorations with them on!

Take a trip to Chinatown

The largest Chinatown outside of Asia, it is one of the most fascinating tourist spots in the city. Bustling with tourists, locals, restaurants, shops and churches, half a day can easily be spent here. The cuisine is fantastic and the shops are so interesting you really don’t know what you may be able to find! Another great way to immerse yourself is to go for a tea-tasting session at one of the many herbal tea shops. ADNFCR-408-ID-801739531-ADNFCR
