Last month saw 341,866 passengers use London City Airport.

As well as being a four per cent hike on the figure seen in July last year, this is also a new record, the biggest number of passengers seen in any month during the history of the airport.

Last year as a whole was also a record breaker for London City Airport, as 3.381m used it.

The Airport has sought planning permission for development of present infrastructure, which will mean that it can increase UK airport capacity. It also wants to create a new runway.

"By 2023 we will be welcoming 6 million passengers per year and our existing facilities need to be upgraded. Our development will create 1,500 new jobs as well as a further 500 during construction, and generate an additional £750m for the UK economy," commented chief commercial officer, Matthew Hall.ADNFCR-408-ID-801740737-ADNFCR
