Edinburgh Airport begins whiskey-flavoured festival
13 Aug 2014

Edinburgh Airport has recently kicked off a whiskey-flavoured festival, running up to September 30th.

It comes as large numbers of passengers will be coming to the city in the near future for a variety of events.

The airport's new drink and food fest will see the Scottish Selection highlighting Edinburgh Airport's whiskey offering.

World Duty Free, a retailer, and Delaware North are helping out with the event, and chefs at the airport are going to be making a range of food and drink options featuring whisky - specifically Auchentoshan single malt varieties of the spirit.

Haggis served with tatties and neeps and a venison dish can be sampled at The Gathering, for example, both featuring a whiskey sauce.

And at Thermidors Champagne Bar visitors can have a dram of whisky with Spanish manchego cheese to nibble on.

"We’re proud to be working with our partners at Auchentoshan, Delaware North and World Duty Free to launch this amazing celebration of one of Scotland’s most famous products," commented Edinburgh Airport head of retail and property, Richard Townsend.

"Scotch whisky is renowned the world over and we want our passengers to be at the heart of our new festival."

He added that, the fringe festival is now up and running in Edinburgh and golf tournament the Ryder Cup is coming up soon, so the airport predicts millions will be travelling through it in the coming months.

Whiskey makes an ideal present to give to relatives following a trip to Scotland, he said, or a perfect treat for the buyer themselves.

"So why not stop off at our World Duty Free store and browse all that we have to offer or have a chat with their expert staff to help you find the ideal malt?" he added.
