Revamp for Sydney's Opera Bar

Revamp for Sydney's Opera Bar
1 Sep 2014

There are changes on the way for Opera Bar at Sydney Opera House.

A revamp is coming up following the Opera House signing a decade long operating agreement for the bar with the Solotel group, in the wake of a public tender process.

Upcoming changes include efforts to diversify the food on offer at the bar, with a focus on showcasing produce from Australia itself and new menus created by Matt Moran.

The southern end of the bar will introduce a new cafe section, raw seafood bar and charcuterie room.

There will also be refurbishment as well as improvement to access through the bar.

Public tenders are happening for every Opera House food and drink contract when it ends, in line with government policy in New South Wales.

The Opera Bar contract most recently in place ended at the close of September, and the Opera House announced the new one August 18th.

There will be two stages to the bar's refurbishment. At some point in the future, before 2014 is over, it will close for a month for the first stage. A second phase will be carried out in 2015 to 2016.

"Opera Bar is the busiest food and beverage venue at the Opera House and one of the most popular in the nation," said John Symond AM, Sydney Opera House Trust chairman.

"This excellent result demonstrates the value of the tender process and will ensure Opera Bar remains an important part of the Opera House visitor experience."

Meanwhile, Anna Solomon, creative director at Solotel, commented: "We are looking forward to unveiling our new design concept and fitout for the best location in Sydney."

She said the bar would retain its welcoming atmosphere and great views.ADNFCR-408-ID-801745879-ADNFCR
