Blue Moon Diamond exhibition for LA
5 Sep 2014

September 13th will see The Blue Moon Diamond go on show at The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, USA.

This 12 carat diamond - which is among the world's rarest stones and was discovered in South Africa - is going to be part of a Gem Vault exhibition at the attraction, running to January 6th next year.

The blue shade of the stone is due to it containing boron within its carbon structure.

"Fancy vivid blue diamonds are extremely rare and the Blue Moon is no exception. It is a historic stone that is one of the rarest gems with this color and in this size to be found in recent history," said Suzette Gomes, the chief operating officer of Cora International, which is loaning the stone to the museum.

The attraction is based in Exposition Blvd in LA, and first opened back in 1913.ADNFCR-408-ID-801747018-ADNFCR
