New York's Metropolitan Museum brings out app
5 Sep 2014

People looking for information about New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art have been provided with a new app with which they can do just that.

The Met, as the app is called, can be used on Apple iOS devices - the iPad, iPhone and iPad Touch - and can be downloaded from the App Store for free.

The new app's launch was announced by museum director and CEO, Thomas P. Campbell.

It features details on The Met's Fifth Avenue museum, as well as The Cloisters museum and gardens - Upper Manhattan's medieval-focused space.

People can use it to see what the present exhibitions are and how much longer they are on for, as well as collection highlights and family activities, for example.

People can buy their tickets to the museum through the app and read the museum's tweets.

"With so much to see and do at the Met on a daily basis, we wanted to create a simple yet personalised way for our community to find the art, exhibitions, and events that matter most to them," commented Mr Campbell.

"The new app is a pocket-sized, customisable tool that puts the Met at users’ fingertips. It will be great for both New Yorkers and everyone in our global community who wants to stay connected with the Met—from anywhere in the world."

The software also features an area for Metropolitan Museum of Art members with news on member events.

An Android edition of the app is currently in development and is set to be launched next year.

The iOS version was launched September 2nd, with the event marked by a gig in the Temple of Dendur at the museum from Interpol, the band behind tracks like All The Rage Back Home.ADNFCR-408-ID-801747013-ADNFCR
