'Most plan weekends away' for Christmas shopping
30 Sep 2014

Two in three people say they'll probably increase their Christmas spending this year, compared to last year, recent research suggests.

A Flybe commissioned poll of over 1,000 people also shows that over half (54 per cent) have plans to head for a weekend away Christmas shopping.

The research was released on September 15th, which was 100 days before December 25th.

It shows that 42 per cent of Christmas shoppers want to head to London to do their shopping, with 26 per cent picking the French capital, Paris, home to the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum and the Pompidou Centre.

Berlin came third with 16 per cent of people voting for it, and Edinburgh fourth with seven per cent giving it their vote.

"Christmas seems to come round quicker each year; however people appear eager to make festive shopping more of an experience than a chore in 2014," commented Flybe's chief commercial officer, Paul Simmons.

“Already we can see peaks in our bookings and certainly the second weekend in December is spiking in terms of seat sales across our network of routes but particularly into London City."

The most popular weekend for a Christmas Shopping break is December 13th to 14th, the poll revealed. However, some respondents did say they would probably not do their Christmas shopping until December 24th!

"It would seem Winter Wonderland, Westfield Stratford City and Harrods are all big draws into the London and people are planning ahead and booking early to make the most of the festivities this Christmas," commented Mr Simmons.

Among the attractions that London has on offer, besides its top shopping, are the British Museum - which presents visitors with historical artefacts including Greek Vases and Ancient Egyptian sculpture - and Madame Tussauds, which famously features wax versions of many famous people.ADNFCR-408-ID-801751553-ADNFCR
