Delicious getaways for those with a sweet tooth

Delicious getaways for those with a sweet tooth

In honour of National Chocolate Week which begins today (October 13th), we’ve searched high and low for the best holiday destinations for chocoholics to get their sugary fix.

Brussels

We couldn’t possibly tell you about the greatest destinations for chocoholics without starting with Belgium.

For those planning a trip to Brussels, make sure you head straight for the city’s central square, also known as the Grand Place. Not only is the square and its buildings itself beautiful and extremely significant in the country’s history - the Gothic Hôtel de Ville was in fact the only building which wasn’t damaged by the French in 1695, even though it was the main target - but it is also home to the Museum of Cocoa and Chocolate.

Yes, you heard right - who knew learning could be so fun and, well, delicious? Here you will learn all about the history of chocolate; from its origins with the Aztecs and the Mayans, to its relevance in Belgium. You will also get to watch a demonstration which shows you how the famous praline chocolate is made, of which the best part is no doubt that time when you can actually sample the goods yourself!

Once you have whetted your chocolate appetite, take a stroll around the Grand Place and you will be able to buy a number of sweet delights to take home as souvenirs…or to keep until later on when you need another dose.

Marbella

This may come as a surprise given that Marbella is probably best associated with sunbathing and eating Paella by the sea. However, anyone who has visited Marbella’s Old Town can vouch that the churros and chocolate you can find in the La Plaza de los Naranjas (Orange Square) are out of this world.

The churros, a waffle-like stick of fried dough, come as a large ring - enough to share with the family if you can bear the thought of it - and the hot cup of chocolate you get with it to dip it in is so deliciously rich, that you will struggle to have any extra helpings.

Las Vegas

The Las Vegas strip just got a whole lot sweeter as Hershey’s Chocolate World opened up earlier this year.

Opened by the favourite American confectionery brand, this is a two-story chocolate dream which offers guests a taste-exploration experience in the New York-New York Hotel Casino.

Guests can customise their own Hershey’s milk chocolate bar wrapper and even star in their own Reese’s TV commercial. The store even pays tribute to its home with a model of the Empire State Building, which is made out of 1,8000 Hershey’s bars!ADNFCR-408-ID-801753978-ADNFCR
