Hotels in Brazil benefit from World Cup
13 Oct 2014

The 2014 FIFA World Cup was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year and one which the hotel industry in Brazil certainly benefited from.

Being this year’s hosting country, hotels in the cities in which matches were played between June 12th and July 13th, saw their demand increase.

STR Global, which tracked the data for nine of the 12 cities which hosted matches, found that it was Rio de Janeiro which reported the strongest performance in average daily rate and occupancy.

Interestingly, all of the cities, aside from Fortaleza, experienced higher occupancy in June rather than July, although Sao Paulo found that this was almost the same during both months.

Elizabeth Winkle, managing director of STR Global, said: "Not only did the tournament draw global visitors but it attracted visitors from across the country. As we anticipated, the World Cup had a positive impact on Brazil hotel performance during June and July."ADNFCR-408-ID-801753964-ADNFCR
