17 Oct 2014

The number of tourists who visited London in the first six months of this year was record-breaking, according to the Office of National Statistics International Passenger Survey.

In total, international tourists made almost 8.5 million trips to the capital between January and June, which was a 7.6% increase from the same period the previous year.

Encouragingly, it wasn’t just London which celebrated fantastic records as tourism across the whole of the UK was at its most popular period also during the first half of the year, with a total of 46.41 million trips made, which is an 8% increase on 2013. The amount of money spent by international tourists has so far reached £8.92 billion.

It is expected that the numbers of those making visits to the capital will remain high during the second half of the year as galleries, museums and theatres welcome visitors to their Autumn and Winter Season programmes.ADNFCR-408-ID-801755119-ADNFCR
