For those hoping to attend 2017’s America’s Cup, you may find yourself jetting off to sunny San Diego if the city wins its bid to host.

Affectionately known as the ‘auld mug’, the America’s Cup is a trophy won by the winner of the America’s Cup sailing yacht match races, and 2017 will be the 35th time that it has taken place.

If San Diego is successful in its bid, which includes a video showing why its bay is the perfect place for the sport to take place, it will be the city’s fourth time hosting the event.

The video proposes that the city is the ideal place for America’s Cup due to the fact that the yachts will be viewable from the shore by spectators and because organisers will be able to count on a breeze of more than eight knots 93% of the time.

At present, San Diego is competing against Bermuda, with the hosting venue announced this December. Last year’s America’s Cup took place in another Californian city, San Francisco.ADNFCR-408-ID-801756563-ADNFCR
