With Halloween just around the corner, eyes are turning to the most scary haunted houses. However, there are many destinations which are spooky any day of the year.

New York City

While most people venturing to the Big Apple opt for a Sex and the City tour or one which highlights the city’s film locations, there is in fact a number of ghost tours which you can partake in.

Ghosts of NY offers a number of 90 minute walking tours and they promise not to disappoint. Go in search of Eleanor Roosevelt and her pet dog Fala during the tour named Edgar Allan Poe and His Ghostly Neighbors of Greenwich Village, which also takes you to Washington Square Park, the most haunted area in America.

Of course, what would a trip to New York be without a visit to the most famous spirit-exterminators themselves who reside at Hook & Ladder 8. Yes, that’s right, the Ghost Busters building is offered on one of the tours, which will then end with the ghost of John Lennon and the spot in which he was murdered.

The Dublin Ghost Bus Tour is a must do in the Emerald Isle, as the Irish are well known for their tales of banshees and the like.

You know you are really in for the fight of your life as the bus itself is decked out in a spooky Gothic interior, complete with blood red velvet curtains. The colour is very fitting given that one of the most terrifying characters of all time, Dracula, was created by Dublin’s very own Bram Stoker.

As the bus pulls up to the College of Surgeons, try to spot Dr Clossey who is said to still haunt the building, walking around with a bucket of human blood and guts. Rumour also has it that the Lady in White still haunts the graveyard of St Patrick’s Cathedral in the hope of finding her cruel husband.

Prague has a history that is filled with mystery and murder, making it one of the perfect destinations to head to for any thrill seeker, especially given that in the 16th and 17th centuries it was a focal point where alchemists and astrologers would meet.

McGee’s Ghost Tours offer a number of experiences which will no doubt have you peeking under your bed and in your closet before you go to bed.

Prague Castle After Dark in particular is a good tour to embark on as you start at the Old Town Square and make your way through the palaces, monuments and monasteries of Prague Castle. A stop by the ‘Hole to Hell’ will have you shaking, as will stories about the ‘Devil’s Bible’.ADNFCR-408-ID-801756765-ADNFCR
