International tourism continues to grow

The number of tourists travelling internationally have increased by 5% within the first eight months of this year.

The research, which was shown in the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, depicted that the number of tourists who travelled reached 781 million between January and August 2014. This is 36 million more than those within the same period the previous year.

When it came to the regions which showed the strongest growth in tourism, the Americas came in at first place with an increase of 8%. Of this, North America had the highest increase of 9%.

Asia and the Pacific increased by 5%, with South Asia reporting an increase of 8% on the previous year.

Europe saw an extra 4% of tourists visit between January and August, with the Mediterranean being the strongest subregion in the continent with a growth of 7%.

The Barometer measured an international tourist by counting it as an overnight traveller, meaning that the total number of those who passed through countries will be higher.ADNFCR-408-ID-801758003-ADNFCR
