Tokyo considering smoking ban ahead of Olympics
4 Nov 2014

Ahead of the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo, the city’s metropolitan government has actually created a special committee which will deal with the issue of smoking in public.

The committee will focus on second-hand smoking in public in the hope that it can implement a smoking ban in public areas, as well as restaurants in the lead up to the world famous sporting event.

By creating such a public smoking ban, Tokyo will follow in the footsteps of recent host cities London and Beijing, which both brought in such a ban in 2012 and 2008, respectively.

However, while it is hoped that the ban will be put into place, it doesn’t mean that smokers will have to fully go without as the committee will establish separate areas for people to be able to smoke in.

This news comes after politician Yoichi Masuzoe said back in August that the effect second-hand smoking has on people’s health was becoming a major issue in the city.ADNFCR-408-ID-801758305-ADNFCR
