Japan home to world’s best whisky

Japan home to world’s best whisky
6 Nov 2014

Those who thought that the perfect dram of whisky would come from either Scotland or Ireland will be surprised to learn that the best actually comes from somewhere a little bit further east.

In fact, it is a Japanese whisky which has been named as the best in the world by the Whisky World Bible, and to be more specific this is a single malt whisky which is produced in the Yamazaki distillery near Kyoto.

There was actually no Scottish whisky in the top five!

Yamazaki’s offering was awarded the title by whisky expert Jim Murray who scored it a fantastic 97.5 marks out of 100, claiming that it was ‘near indescribable genius’ when commenting on it for the forthcoming 2015 World Whisky Bible.

Making this year’s win even more special is the fact that this is the first time in the 12 year history of the guide that a Japanese whisky has received the top award.ADNFCR-408-ID-801758688-ADNFCR
