Iceland braced for Vikings return

Travellers visiting Iceland during June this year would be forgiven for thinking that they had stepped back in time.
Back over one thousand years in fact, as the country hosts its annual International Viking Festival.
Over 1,150 years ago Vikings landed on Iceland, making it the last country to be inhabited by man.
Held at the Viking Village in Hafnarfjordur, the festival is attended by Icelanders keen to celebrate their past as well as people from other countries with Viking heritage.
Tourists can soak up the adventurous spirit of the island's heritage, with displays of ancient arts and crafts and stalls of Viking memorablia.
For those brave enough to challenge them, Icelandic men in full Viking attire will demonstrate their ancient battle skills in mock fights.
People keen to sample not only the food and drink of contemporary Iceland but its past as well can do so at the Viking feast, which provides an array of traditional foods.
There is even a Viking museum for travellers to stay in from which tourists can explore Iceland's unspoilt natural landscape, including hot springs and glaciers.
