Lufthansa launches new Bahrain service
16 March 2006

German airliner Lufthansa has announced that it is to offer a new service to the archipelago of Bahrain.

As of the May 2nd, a thrice-weekly service will link the emirate to Germany, offering economy, business and first class travel.

Lufthansa ended its service to Bahrain in the 1990s but resumes it with the Frankfurt to Manama flight on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Bahrain is a now a stopover on the main flight to Abu Dhabi and the company says that it offers on-board internet through all the classes.

In a bid to attract new customers, Lufthansa is running a deal where travellers booking before May 14th and departing by July 30th can pay from 524 for economy and 2,105 for a business class flight.

Bahrain, once thought by some to be home to the Garden of Eden, is now famous for such things as its Formula One Grand Prix and its appeal to celebrities such as Shakira and Jenson Button.

By connecting to Bahrain, Lufthansa now boasts of serving every country in the Middle East except Iraq and Syria.

Flights are scheduled to depart Frankfurt at 1310 local time, arriving in Manama at 2000 local time and the deal is subject to certain booking and other fees.
