Spa's the star
17 March 2006

Hotel guests are no longer hitting the bar, but now choose to hit the spa.

Research into the top trends for hotels for the coming year has put spas as the number one attraction.

A spokesman for Benchmark Hospitality International, that was behind the survey, said: "It doesn't matter if you're a guest at a meeting, staying the night, or just getting away for the weekend, customers want to hit the spa, even if only for an hour or two at the end of the day.

"Hotels and resorts are adding spas rapidly to meet the demand. It's not just about healthy lifestyles. It's well deserved pampering too!"

Other facilities that people are demanding to see in hotels include plasma screen TVs in rooms and Wi-Fi.

The spokesman added: "It's about convenience. Laptops open everywhere these days and it's expected that a guest can log on and access email or the office at a moment's notice - wherever he or she is.

"This is no longer a luxury, it is now perceived as a necessity."

Along with Wi-Fi and spas people are demanding top quality bed linen, superior towels, and luxurious, often branded, soaps to make their stay completely relaxing.
