Baby jumping
11 April 2006
Eager parents line their babies up to be jumped over each June in the Spanish village of Castrillo de Murcia.
The baby jumping takes place as a part of the Corpus Christi celebrations - which falls this year on 18 June- that take place all over Spain.
In Castrillo de Murcia, men dress up as yellow devils, carrying whips and truncheons, and leap over the babies in a custom that is supposed to cleanse them of any evil, while large crowds watch on.
Around the village, locals build altars out of flowers along the historic streets.
In Spain, Corpus Christi is usually celebrated with processions, lead by priests, around towns and ending up at church.
Although each town has its own variation, the theme of people coming to the streets to celebrate and a profusion of flowers is common throughout Spain.
