From John Lennon to John Paul
12 April 2006

easyJet has started flights from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to John Paul II International Airport in Krakow.

The airline is also commencing flights from Liverpool to Marseille and Faro and a service to Mahon, on Minorca, starts in the summer.

Robin Tudor, the airport's corporate affairs manager, said: 'The Krakow route is expected to be a very popular service for both outbound tourists visiting a city with great history and for inbound Poles wishing to use Liverpool as a gateway to the north-west of England.'

The new routes will serve to keep the airport as the UK's fastest growing.

Latest Civil Aviation Authority figures show last year Liverpool saw a 32 per cent increase in passengers and predictions for this Easter say 53,000 passengers will pass though the airport.

Mr Tudor commented: 'To use the football analogy, it wasn't long ago that the airport was battling against relegation in the lower leagues of the UK airport industry, but today Liverpool is seen as a "premier league" airport continually improving its league position.'
