Canada just for laughs
13 April 2006
The world's top comedy festival Just For Laughs will be returning to Quebec this July.
The annual event - running this year from 13 to 23 July - brings together the world's greatest funnymen and women as a showcase for comedic talent.
The star of this year's festival will be comedy legend and Monty Python star John Cleese, who will host two gala performances.
In total Quebec will be the venue for over 700 performers trying to make their name and follow in the footsteps of stars such as Chris Rock, Rowan Atkinson and Jerry Seinfeld who all made their names as international stars at the festival.
The main 20 venues can be found along St Denis Street meaning the festival, despite its size, has a friendly small town atmosphere.
For visitors with a British sense of humour, there will be a Britcom night, which was last year hosted by Lenny Henry and featured the Might Boosh's Noel Fielding and Lee Mack among others.
Just For Laughs started in 1983 - as Juste Pour Rire - with just 16 French performers but in the years since has bloomed into a major entertainment event that involves the whole city.
