13 April 2006
New figures show that tourists to Northern Ireland are staying for longer.
The Northern Ireland Tourist Board found that while visitor numbers are at roughly the same level, trips have increased in length by 13 per cent.
In 2005 travellers spent 9.57 million nights in the area up from 8.5 million the year before.
More tourists are heading to Northern Ireland from North America, continental Europe and the Republic of Ireland, while UK visitor numbers fell slightly.
Meanwhile, figures from the Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau show in the number of people heading to the country's capital Belfast hit 6.4 million, an increase of eight per cent.
Diane Dodds, chair of the city council's tourism committee, said: 'We have more to offer visitors than ever before.'
