Delta avoids pilots' strike

US airline Delta has narrowly avoided a strike by pilots over wage and benefit cuts.
The airline's pilots and management appear to have reached an agreement although it must still be ratified in a further meeting between the pilots and union leaders in a process that is expected to last some weeks.
Details on the deal have not been released although it is expected to offer the firm's 6,000 pilots an improvement on the previously proposed $300 million in pay cuts.
However, staff at Delta's wholly owned subsidiary Comair are considering striking over a possible $8.9 million cut in pay for flight attendants.
The attendants have warned that they will go ahead with a strike if the proposals are not rescinded, stating that pay cuts would be unfair.
Comair, which along with Delta has filed for bankruptcy protection in the past 12 months, flies to 108 cities.
