Auckland Airport goes wireless
18 April 2006

A new service will be offered to customers at Auckland Airport which will allow them to access the internet while waiting for a flight.

Wireless internet connections are now available to travellers in the Emirates Lounge at Auckland Airport, offering them the chance to access the internet on their laptops.

The Emirates Lounge uses Wi-Fi technology to offer business and first class travellers the ability to access the internet and the Emirates airline believes the move highlights its commitment to business travel.

However, the move is a first step in the direction of providing wireless internet access in airports across the world and it is anticipated that the technology will be rolled out beyond first and business class passengers in the near future.

As more and more people have access to the internet via laptops and mobile phones, offering wireless internet access will become more popular in airports throughout the world.

The move is part of a wider plan by Auckland Airport to provide wireless access to all travellers with Wi-Fi hotspots due to be established in cafes and other public areas around the terminal.
