East Midlands flights keep on track
25 April 2006

Ninety-eight per cent of flights from Nottingham East Midlands Airport (NEMA) were 'on track'.

At an awards ceremony held at the airport it was announced almost all flights in and out of the airport remained on strict flight paths that have been designed to reduce disturbance to local communities.

A series of airlines, including easyJet, bmibaby, and Lufthansa, were honoured at the meeting for their 'exemplary performance' during 2005 for sticking to the flight paths.

In order to make sure planes remain on the paths, NEMA has introduced the Noise and Track Monitoring System, which checks aircraft up to 30 miles away from the airport

NEMA Managing Director Penny Coates said: 'We are absolutely committed to reducing the impact of our operations on our neighbours and this scheme is just one of the many ways in which we are working towards this goal.

'The high environmental standards set by the airport demonstrate that a partnership approach with our customers can help to manage the effect we have on local people. My personal congratulations go to the airlines and pilots involved in meeting this demanding challenge.'
