1 in 20 on the net looking for travel
27 April 2006

New research has found that one in 20 of all people on the internet or 4.69 per cent are heading to travel websites.

Figures from internet monitoring firm Hitwise also show there has been a 10 per cent increase in the number of people logging on to find holidays and book tickets.

The increase is in part down to the spread of broadband meaning far more people are online and the fact that more people are ready to shop around on the net for the best travel deals.

The research also showed that most popular searches people were making.

Increasingly people are typing in names of particular firms into search engines - with easyJet, Ryanair and British Airways being among the most popular - over general terms such as flights, hotels or travel.

People surfing the net for travel information are also increasingly focussing on the biggest companies with 55 per cent heading to the top 20 sites.
