Shannon named best Irish airport
05 May 2006

Shannon International has been named Ireland's best airport.

The Chamber of Commerce of Ireland awards, based on the views of 400 senior executives, gave Shannon the award for the second year running.

Airport director Martin Moroney said in the Limerick Post: 'I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of everyone at Shannon Airport whose hard work and dedication have ensured that we achieved this great honour.'

At the awards the best international airport was named as Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport and the best regional airport in Ireland was Knock Airport.

The business organisation also handed out awards to the best airlines.

Lufthansa picked up the award for best European airline, while Aer Lingus received three awards for best London, other UK and transatlantic routes.

Ryanair was honoured for its online services and overall value for money.

Last year Shannon was Ireland's fastest growing airport with passenger numbers hitting 3.3m, an increase of 35%.
