UK visits to US falls

New US government figures show the number UK visitors to the US fell by 6% in January.
With UK travellers making up four in ten of all Western European travellers to the US, the numbers of European visitors fell, according to US department of commerce data.
However, more Germans were making their way across the Atlantic, as are more people from Eastern Europe.
In total 2.9m visitors from around the world headed to the US in January an increase of 11 per cent.
Al Frink, Assistant Secretary for Manufacturing and Services, said: 'It is encouraging to see a continuing trend of increased visitation to the United States.'
'In 2005, we recorded the second-highest number of visitors in US history, and those visitors spent record dollars during their stays,' he added.
Visitors from all regions of the world - except Western Europe - rose.
