Samba in Scandinavia
10 May 2006

The rhythms of carnival come to Denmark this June.

The Copenhagen Carnival has all the passions and costumes of carnivals in warmer climes and the Danish enthusiasm for the event heats up festivities even further.

The carnival takes place in one of Copenhagen's parks on 2 to 4 June and along with the children's and adults' parades there will be over 80 bands from around the world performing on seven different stages.

Artists from Brazil, Cuba and Africa will give the carnival the authentic touch.

From 31 May to 4 June the Danish capital is also home to Copenhagen Distortion, described as a 'five-day mobile party festival'.

The festival - now running for eight years - includes around 40 events celebrating Copenhagen's nightlife with all genres of music covered, from techno to jazz.

Events take place right across the city, under bridges, on buses and boats and in bars and nightclubs.
