DC opens to new destinations
10 May 2006

Three new 'Gateway' destinations have been opened to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, in Washington DC.

The gateway status means airlines will be able to start flights to the US capital from Dallas/Love Field Airport, Memphis International Airport and Milwaukee's General Mitchell International Airport.

The decision was made by the US department of homeland security's transportation security administration (TSA) and means that general security measures are in place as standard.

Robert Rottman, TSA general manager for general aviation, said: 'TSA is pleased to be adding three more Gateway airports.

'The partnership with the industry ensures TSA's stringent security requirements are maintained while increasing general aviation access.'

Security measures include an armed security officer on all flights and background checks on passengers and crew.

Reagan National's other gateway destinations include Seattle, Houston, Chicago Midway, Minneapolis/St Paul and San Francisco and in total it offers direct flights to 70 destinations.
