Eastern ends Manchester-Norwich service
11 May 2006
Eastern Airways is to end its flights between Manchester and Norwich.
The Eastern Daily Press (EDP) reports that the airline is to stop the service at the end of May, due to increased competition.
Eastern Airlines spokesman Dave Macdermid told the EDP: 'It has been a good niche market for us for the last six years but the problem is the route cannot sustain two operators so we have taken the fairly tough decision to withdraw.'
With the Manchester-Norwich route closing, the airline is to start two new services in June.
Flights between Brussels and Cardiff and between Inverness and Newcastle will start on 5 June.
Eastern's Scotland director Graeme Ross said: 'Newcastle is a major destination for all types of traveller and while it was once in the forefront of the industrial revolution, it is certainly now the spearhead of technical innovation, leisure and culture.
'Among its many highlights are the transformed waterfront, the Quayside, now lined with stylish hotels, restaurants and public art. The Gateshead Millennium Bridge, a work of art in itself, arches across the Tyne to link the city to Gateshead Quays and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.'
