Libya and Albania named future holiday hotspots
19 May 2006

Albania and Libya have been named as the next big new destinations for 2007.

The two countries join Morocco, Dubai and India in next year's top five new holiday hotspots.

Research found more people of all ages are taking advantage of airlines opening up routes to cross new travel 'frontiers'.

'A number of low-cost carriers are already beginning to open up services to Morocco, so we expect a significant increase in travel there at the latter part of 2006 and early in 2007," said Rob Upton, of Europ Assistance, which carried out the research.

'In addition, Albania will open up in June, once British Airways starts its service to Tirana.'

He explained that Dubai was on the list as it was increasingly popular with holidaymakers and foreign homebuyers and Libya looked set to follow suit in 2007.

The firm's research also revealed that a new type of traveller is emerging.

Mr Upton said: 'We're also increasingly encountering a new profile of customer - the adventurous elderly traveller, with even people in their 80s heading for remote long-haul locations.'
