American Airlines named best for travellers with disabilities
19 May 2006
American Airlines has been voted the Airline of Choice for Travellers with a Disability at the 2006 OAG Awards.
The airline picked up the award at the ceremony regarded as the Oscars of the airline industry - last night (18 May) in London in recognition for its work to make travelling as easy as possible for disabled people.
Craig Kreeger, senior vice president of American Airlines, said after receiving the award from Alan Whicker: 'It is a real honour for us to receive this
'We take great pride in offering all of our customers an enjoyable flying experience. Winning this award is a credit to American Airlines employees.'
Last year American Airlines and American Eagles helped over one million disabled passengers to fly.
Eddie Bell, chairman of OAG, said: 'Too often when travelling, those with a disability can find things more difficult than able-bodied passengers, which should not be the case.
'From the comments that came in via the survey it is clear how much people value the extra care and consideration that is shown by certain airlines. American Airlines is highly regarded for making disabled travellers feel comfortable and respected.'
At the ceremony, awards also went to British Airways for its transatlantic services and Continental Airlines, which won the best North American carrier category for the third consecutive year in a row and best business class airline for the fourth year in a row.
