SAS brokers deal with unions

Fears over strikes hitting the Scandinavian airline group SAS have faded after it came to a deal with the pilots' union.
Earlier this year pilots had held wildcat strikes over future contracts and it was thought industrial action could return if a compromise was not possible between the airline and the 2,000 pilots.
Under the agreement, the pilots will receive a 2.4% pay rise and contracts to ensure that those who work with national subsidiaries will still be employed by the SAS group will be put into place.
Mogens Holgaard, chairman of the Danish pilots' union, told a Danish news agency Ritzau that he was relieved and happy with the deal.
He said: 'We have got a deal that serves both us and SAS well. It ensures that SAS will get the improved productivity it needs while our demands have been met.'
Despite increased competition from low cost carriers SAS has continued to perform well and in April it carried 3.1m passengers an increase of 1.5%.
