Continental takes off to Copenhagen
24 May 2006

US airline Continental has flown its first service to Denmark.

The non-stop service links New York's Newark Liberty International Airport and Copenhagen.

With the introduction of the new route, Continental now flies to 28 cities in Europe from the US.

Jim Summerford, Continental Airlines vice president, said: 'Our new Copenhagen service rounds out our Scandinavian network by complementing the existing flights we offer to Oslo and Stockholm.'

The airline will run the service daily, except in winter when it will be cut to five flights a week.

This month Continental has also started daily non-stop services to Barcelona and Cologne/Bonn so it now has flights to four German cities and two in Spain.

New figures from Copenhagen Airport show the most popular destination is London - with 1.3m passengers heading there in 2005 - followed by Oslo and Stockholm.

The most popular country for people to fly to was Norway - being the destination for one in ten passengers.
