Irish arts are calling
25 May 2006

Ireland's largest arts festival takes place this July in Galway.

The Galway Arts Festival runs from 17 to 30 July and is set to feature more than 400 writers, artists, performers and musicians from around the world.

The festival covers a broad range of arts from literature and theatre to comedy and street art.

Music lovers should head to the festival Big Top where an international line up of artists, including David Gray, the New Orleans All Star Party, Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo Y Gabriela and UB40, will be performing.

The festival has been running for the last 28 years and last year it attracted over 100,000 visitors to Galway, which normally has a population of 75,000.

With the majority of the 21 venues in the city centre, the festival takes over Galway and the public mixes freely at events and through the streets with performers.

The surrounding county of Galway also offers much for visitors, including beaches, traditional Irish villages and picturesque countryside.
