German gardens

For most visitors to Germany this summer the only greenery that they will focus on will be the football pitches, but the country's range of gardens offers a little more variety.
One of the highlights is the 6,000 sq metre garden kept by Marianne Forster in Potsdam, near Berlin, which is set to celebrate its centenary.
Ms Forster took over from the work of her father Karl and has managed to keep the garden described as one of the most romantic in Germany the same for 100 years.
Her garden now given the status of a national monument - includes a sunken garden, a spring path, autumn beds and a stone garden.
The Berlin suburb of Marzahn is also home to the Gardens of the World. In a corner of the city away from the hustle and bustle, gardeners have created authentic Chinese, Japanese, Balinese and Oriental gardens to be enjoyed.
In the city of Bremen - well known for its parks, gardens and open spaces - the Rhododendron Park is home to 680 species of rhododendrons and 1,000 hybrids, while the neighbouring Botanika Natural Science Experience Centre has Japanese, Himalayan and Borneo gardens.
