Connery goes to parliament
25 May 2006
The Scottish Parliament has announced this week that Sir Sean Connery is to attend its second Festival of Politics.
Following the success of last year's festival - which brought thousands of visitors to the Scottish Parliament's new building at Holyrood it is hoped Sir Sean's involvement will boost attendance further.
The actor will take part in an interview on 23 August, sharing his views on Scotland, its place in the world and its politics.
The Scottish Parliament's presiding officer George Reid, who will interview Sir Sean, said: 'I look forward to quizzing Sean on his life and work, his engagement with Scottish politics and what he will be doing next.
'Sir Sean's involvement in the festival is a mark, not only of the increasing profile of this event, but of the parliament taking its place on the world stage.'
Another major attraction of the event which runs 23 to 25 August alongside the Edinburgh festival - will be the World Press Photo exhibition, this year celebrating its 50th anniversary.
The exhibition - which tours the world - showcases the striking images from world events in 2005.
Mr Reid said: 'The awe-inspiring images of the World Press Photo exhibition are not always comfortable viewing, but each year these images make a lasting impression on audiences worldwide.
'Bringing the exhibition to Holyrood as part of this year's Festival of Politics is a great coup. And with around 50 events taking place over four days, this summer's Festival promises to be even bigger and better than the critically acclaimed first Festival of Politics in 2005.'
