New link to Luton
25 May 2006

Travel to Luton Airport is set to improve with the announcement of a new road link.

The £16 million link between the M1 at junction 10a and the airport will be one of the biggest highways projects in the area and is set to be completed in early 2008.

As well as reducing traffic congestion to the airport, it is hoped that the new East Luton Corridor will aid regeneration in the area.

The airport itself made famous in the TV series Airport - is set to undergo an extension to increase visitor numbers above the current level of 9m a year to 30m by 2030.

Planned improvements include a new runway, a new terminal at the south of the airport and a new control tower, with the target of the 2012 London Olympic Games set for much of the work.
