Brits opt for beach holidays
25 May 2006
New research shows Britons are more likely to be heading to the beach for holidays over culture.
A poll by market information provider TNS of European holiday intentions shows the most popular holidays for to the beach vacations and on city breaks.
Only 7% of British holidaymakers were planning to jet away on a cultural break, while over a quarter of Spanish and Italian tourists were planning to get away to take in some culture.
In total, 14% of Brits were planning shopping holiday.
TNS travel and tourism head Tom Costley explained that the results showed that in the UK people were taking fewer holidays than last year.
However, new air routes in the UK had opened up certain areas such as Scotland to visitors and also created greater chances for locals to travel further afield.
The most common countries to visit were Spain, Italy and France.
