Python spotted in Croatia
30 May 2006

Monty Python comedian and globetrotter Michael Palin has been spotted in Croatia.

Palin was in the Croatian city of Split filming his new TV show Palin's New Europe.

Far from the gruelling schedules that saw the comedian head up the Himalayas, through the Sahara and around the world in previous series, Palin spent his time in Split by the sea, meeting locals and taking in the Adriatic sunshine.

Writing on his blog, Palin explained why he was setting out on the road again.

He said: 'The idea is to look at the way people live now in countries which will all be part of the EU over the next few years. Many of these countries didn't exist when I was born 63 years ago and those that did exist have been through difficult times.

'We shall try to get off the beaten track and to convey some of the beauty of the remote, unspoilt parts of Europe, whilst never being more than three hours' flying time away from my new grandson, Archie.'

Palin's journey is set to take in Albania, Bosnia, Macedonia and Moldova and the TV show is expected to be on the screens next year.
