Flight delayed after avian flew
12 June 2006

A flight from Alderney to Southampton was delayed by a parrot last week.

The parrot named Polly was travelling with her owner when she managed to escape from her box.

The Sun reports how the bird at first perched herself on her owners shoulder but as the plane began to taxi towards the runway, she started to become agitated.

Polly then began to fly around the cabin nipping fellow passengers and those on board responded by calling for the pilot to brake.

The cabin crew was able to re-catch the bird after all those on board were evacuated.

Duty officer Steve Roberts told the newspaper: "There was a bit of a problem with Polly. It was a bit of unscripted in-flight entertainment and it was ironic that the plane in use was called Joey.

"We deal with all sorts of things here."

Despite the avian antics the flight was only delayed by ten minutes.
