Cheapest towns around

A study of the cost of 144 cities around the world taking into account transport, food, clothing and entertainment has found the least expensive place in the world is Asuncion in Paraguay.

Many of the cheapest places in the world in the Mercer Cost of Living survey were to be found in South America with Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Caracas all being noted for the good value for visitors.

Leipzig has been named the cheapest city in Europe and currencies changes saw many cities in Eastern Europe, with Prague noted in particular, increasing in value.

The survey also showed the most expensive places to go, with Moscow heading the list this year, replacing Tokyo as the world's most expensive city.

Second and third places were taken by Seoul and Hong Kong, leaving the Japanese capital in fourth. London stood in fifth position.
