Japanese PM and Bush head to Graceland
30 June 2006

George Bush and the Japanese prime minister Junichiro Koizumi are to head to Graceland the residence of Elvis Presley.

The trip is seen as a gift to the Mr Koizumi who is a big fan of the King of Rock'n'Roll and shares his birthday from the US president for supporting him on the international stage.

Mr Bush said yesterday (June 29), while welcoming the Japanese PM to the White House: "I thank the Prime Minister for coming to the White House. And I'm looking forward to joining him tomorrow at Graceland.

"Officially, he's here to see the president - but I know the highlight of his visit will be paying his respects to the King."

This will be Mr Koizumi's final trip to the US as Japanese PM, as he is standing down in the autumn.

At Graceland, Elvis's 14-acre estate in Memphis, the two leaders will be shown round by guides that the 600,000 visitors each year to the house will not usually have. The pair will be welcomed by the singer's wife and only child - Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley.

He has used this final trip to North America to also take in Niagara Falls in Ontario, after meeting his Canadian counterpart, Stephen Harper.
