Passengers warned of delays to Stansted
06 September 2006
Upgrades to the road system around Stansted could lead to delays, passengers heading to the airport are being warned.
This month a £2.1m project will begin on the M11 slip roads at junctions 8 and 8a as the airport prepares to be able to handle 25m passengers a year.
Stansted head of transport Nicola Hooper said: 'We are continually looking to ways in which access to Stansted can be improved, with the M11 slip road improvement work just one of a number of projects we are currently undertaking.
'The construction of our new bus and coach station, which is due to be completed later this year, will help us build on our number 1 position as the UK's top airport for public transport use by passengers.
'We currently have around 39% of passengers arriving at the airport by public transport, which is one of the highest figures for any airport in Europe.'
The road works are expected to be completed by 15 December and road closures will occur during off-peak periods and accordingly motorists are advised to allow more time for their journey.
