Elton John's floral demands
11 December 2006

Sir Elton John has done little to dispel his reputation as a prima donna during a trip to Wellington, New Zealand.

The singer was in the city for just six hours but insisted that every last detail of his dressing room was exactly how he wanted it.

A florist was brought in to decorate the room with long-stemmed red roses, white peonies and an "explosion of colour".

After working for hours to ensure the room looked just right, she was contacted again and told that Sir Elton's demands had changed.

Short-stemmed roses were now required with each one placed inside a square glass container and placed along the wall to create the illusion of there being a hedge in the room.

In addition, the "explosion of colour" was no longer wanted, with lots of different tones of the same colour preferred, and the florist was told to remove all of the leaves from the plants.

'Looking back, we would not have missed the experience - but providing flowers for the Queen on her last visit was a dream compared to the experience with Sir Elton,' florist Jacque Holbrook told website Stuff.co.nz.

'It was so exciting at first but it was deflating as the orders kept changing,' she added.
