Maldives win spa award

The Maldives have been named as the Spa Capital of the year 2006, during a lavish ceremony in Hong Kong.
The archipelago was voted above a host of other great spa destinations, with 180 votes being cast.
Industry officials, spa representatives and other spa VIPs were involved in the voting process, making it one of the largest spa-focused events of 2006.
Spas and resorts were nominated for the Baccarat Asia Spa Awards by a team of experts.
In total, there are 88 resorts in the Maldives, which range from ultra luxury spas to unique local resorts.
Plans are already in place for more than 50 new spa resorts to be opened in the near-future, making the Maldives one of the world's leading spa resorts.
