Seoul's sporting ambition
21 December 2006

South Korean government officials say that they want to bring more major sporting events to Seoul in a bid to attract more visitors.

Plans are in place for bids to be submitted for a number of international events which could put the city on the map.

A bid is said to already be in the making for the chance to host the Fina World Swimming Championships in 2013.

The event sees competitors from over 140 countries taking part and officials say that swimming facilities will be upgraded if the bid is successful.

In addition, Seoul may be about to launch its very own female international football tournament, with a provisional name of The Seoul International Women's Football Championships.

Seoul is already lined up to host the Swatch FIVB Beach Volley World Tour and the Women's World Open Squash Championships in 2007.
